1. Take responsibility for your own positivity. Take some time away from that negative individual on a regular basis to maintain your composure. This includes spending more time with like-minded and positive individuals to protect your own happiness.

2. Manifest positivity and strive to be an authentically secure person. As easy as the first tip sounds, avoiding every individual that you label as “negative” will lead to a plethora of other problems (e.g. loneliness, passivity, etc.). So don’t stop there. The fact that you find it difficult to deal with others’ negativity suggests that there is a seed of negativity in you. Hence, work on becoming a fully secure individual that is in control of the most important aspects of your life.

3. Research shows that negative people harbour fears that manifest in a variety of ways (e.g. judgemental, pessimism, demanding nature, controlling, etc.). So arguing with these individuals will only make matters worse. However, fixing your own negativity will help you gain the compassion, positivity, and maturity that is needed to deal with their comments. The fact is, people like being around positive people, so the negative person will have to accept your mature positive outlook and attitudes. If they don’t? You’ll still be happy.
